FIRST ATTACKER AND DEFENDER
Improves decision-making of the first attacker and defender. Develops penetration, shielding, lateral movement and back passing.

Two teams of 3 in a 15x15 yd. playing area. Each team has a target player in opposite corners and one player in the middle. To start, one team is designated attackers (A) and the other defenders (D).

Play starts with
1v1 in the middle. A1 attempts to receive the ball from one of his targets and then play it to his other target on the opposite end of the diagonal. Whenever A1 plays the ball  to a teammate, he switches positions with the player he passed to. The target brings the ball into play and becomes the field player.

If defender (D1) wins possession of the ball, he plays it to any one of his two targets, then changes places with him.

Score can be kept by awarding a point every time the ball is played to the opposite target.

COACHING POINTS:
1. First attacker penetrates if possible, shields when penetration is not possible.
2. First attacker can dribble the ball sideways to create space for second attacker to penetrate.
3. Encourage attacker to back pass to a teammate if he cannot advance the ball forward.
4. Defenders must constantly recover goal side and in line of penetrating passes.
